Week 25 - Community Helpers

This week we will continue to learn about everyday heroes in our community.

Friday March 1st is a Half Day for Teachers to complete Report Cards.

Report cards will be printed on Monday and go home on Tuesday March 5th.

Week 24 - Feb 19–23, 2023

 

Week 24

For the next two weeks in conjunction with Black History Month, we will be learning all about everyday  hero’s in our community.

We are looking for guest speakers with a variety of jobs to come in and share what they do with the students.

Please let me know if you or someone you know would like to join our class in the next few weeks or make a video of you at your job to share.    

I am looking for some donations to enhance our 

playful learning.  

Construction leftovers : pvc pipe, plastic typing, wire, 

carpet and wall paper samples, a couple of 2-3 ft lumber prices for hammering nails, and a few small hammers.

 

Auto Repair - reflectors, funnels, tubing, empty and clean dish soap bottles (for pretend oil gas), bucket and sponges. 

Post office- some small boxes and envelopes from post office

Dental/Dr office - toothbrushes for painting. Empty floss and toothpaste  containers

Anything else that would fit the themes.  

Just mark with your name if you would like returned.

Thank you for all of the families that donated items and volunteered for our Friendship Party.  Every single family  participated in some way.  I am so lucky to have you abc your children in my life this year.

Please keep Mrs Cockrum’s family in your thoughts and prayers.  She is taking some family leave.   

Her older daughter required surgery on Saturday 

but is on the mend.  We are not sure how long she will need to be out at this time.  The office is collecting gift cards and letters to send to her if you are so inclined. 

Reminder that there are 2 1/2 days this week:

Thursday and Friday. 

We dismiss 10 minutes before the older classes so 12 pick up.

Saving the Day - Storybook

We are entering our second week of our Friendship/Valentine Theme. 

We have also been learning about the Teen Numbers

 and proper handwriting form.

I will be doing individual assessments for report card 

progress over the next 2 weeks so there many not 

be as many papers going home as usual.  

I will be saving them to add to your child's portfolio.

On Friday, we celebrated the number 100 in honor of being

 in school 100 days.  The children enjoyed creating

 100 themed crafts, books, snack and games.

Kindness Party Wednesday Feb 14th 11-12

The children will be exchanging valentines at the party.

There are 8 girls and 7 boys in the class.

I ask that you have your child sign their name to the card

but leave the classmates names off the valentines/envelopes.

This makes passing out the valentines much easier.

All of you should have received your parent teacher conference note.

Winter conferences are held with about 30% of the families school wide.

If I did not recommend a conference, we can still meet if you have a 

specific concern that you would like to discuss.

I was incorrect in my note and these conferences 

are intended to be child led so your child is encouraged to attend.

  My plan is to meet with all families one more time in May 

to go over your child's progress/portfolio and make a plan 

for things to work on over the summer if needed.

Mrs. Confer’s  Winter Conference 2024 

1/2 days on Thurs Feb 22nd and Fri Feb 23th

Winter Conferences are on a need basis. 

Generally teachers meet with about ⅓ of their families

during Winter Conferences.  All parents can make a conference

request if you have concerns and  would like to meet.

Unlike Fall, Y5 students do not attend winter conferences.

I will be sending home a note this week to let you know if I think we should meet.

These are the times and days for those wishing to meet.
